Winery tour full itinerary
9:30 a.m. - Pick up in Barcelona
Your guide will pick you up at your accommodation at 9:00 am. After a 45-minute drive, you will arrive in the Penedès, the famous cava wine region, where you will start your winery tour. Your guide will provide basic knowledge about the area and its wines, but as a certified sommelier, they can also answer any technical questions you might have during the tour.
10:30 a.m. - Llopart Winery: A Premium Corpinnat Tasting & Tour
Llopart is one of the best-known wineries in the area, with a long history of winemaking and a strong commitment to quality. It all began in 1385, when Bernardus Leopardi purchased the estate at the site where the Llopart winery stands today. Set among forests and vineyards on the hills of Subirats, the estate overlooks the wide Penedès valley and the majestic Montserrat mountains. Since then, the Llopart family has remained closely linked to this land and has continued its winemaking tradition for 26 generations.
Much has changed over the centuries, and Llopart has witnessed every major historical shift the region has experienced. It was one of the first wineries to produce sparkling wine during the phylloxera crisis, making its first bottle in 1887. It was also among the first 6 wineries to join Corpinnat, a bold project created to raise the quality standards of sparkling wine in the region. In the past decade, sparkling wine from Penedès has gained renewed recognition thanks to its high-quality standards and the category’s growing prestige.
Discover the history of one of the pioneers in Penedès while learning all about sparkling wine and the Corpinnat appellation. The experience includes a tasting of four exquisite Sparkling wines, a visit to a beautiful underground cellar, and stunning views over the Penedès valley and Montserrat mountain.
12:30 p.m. - Eudald Massana Winery Estate: A premium brunch in the middle of nature
It is time for a relaxed brunch at a small, family-run biodynamic winery. This experience takes place at a small family estate also located in the mountains of Subirats. Here, the terroir features a fascinating mix of clay and limestone soils. The vineyards blend in the surrounding area with Mediterranean pine and oak forests, making it a true delight for the senses. Eudald Massana Winery Estate is a nine-generation project of farmers and winemakers who were early pioneers of organic farming and, more recently, of biodynamic viticulture. By working in harmony with nature, they protect the environment while getting the best quality from their land.
During the visit, you will enjoy a high-quality brunch made with local Catalan products. The menu includes butifarra blanca (white sausage), llonganissa (cured pork sausage), jamón (cured ham), Catalan cheese platter, pa amb tomà quet (traditional bread with tomato), and a homemade Spanish omelet. All paired with top-tier biodynamic wines from the cellar. The tasting begins with Qualified Estate Wine made from 100% Xarel·lo grapes, harvested from old vines planted by the grandfather, Avi Ton, more than 80 years ago. Next, you will try a Gran Reserva Cava, before finishing with a bold red blend of Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot. This custom tasting is arranged exclusively for us, providing a private, intimate space with gorgeous views over the valley.
The wine tasting experience concludes with a private tour of the facility. You will learn about the richness of the soil and discover why biodynamic farming is so important to the family, including how they make wine following the moon cycles and other techniques to fertilize the soil. It is a perfect look inside a small, dedicated estate that has focused on quality and environmental care for generations.
2:30 p.m. - Cava Guilera: having a tour with the wine maker
Our final stop brings us the smallest family winery from the tour. This boutique cellar specializes entirely in long-aged sparkling wines, keeping every bottle in the cellar for at least two years to produce only premium Reserva and Gran Reserva Cavas. Some of their cavas they even stay up to 17 years aging in the cellar! They craft unique expressions using the classic Xarel·lo, Macabeu, and Parellada blend, as well as 100% Xarel·lo cavas. Their core philosophy perfectly defines their passion: “Cava needs time to become a great cava.”
Your host for the day is Pere, a third-generation winemaker who has lived the history of the region firsthand. While he is now retired and his two children, Marta and Jordi, run the winery, he still delights in greeting visitors. Pere will guide you through their historic underground cellar, concluding with an educational tasting of three exceptional Gran Reserva Cavas. The tasting will show the influence of each vintage and its weather conditions, as well as the different blends and the aging time in contact with the lees inside the bottle.

Holly –
My husband I had a fabulous day with Ivan. He is a genuinely nice guy and made us feel super comfortable immediately.
The three wineries we visited were very different and we learned something new at each one. The wines were lovely and lunch in the vineyard was the icing on the cake! I wish I had some now! At the last stop, we sampled different types of chocolates to pair with different wines which truly was a wonderful way to end the day.
Penedès is an amazing region and Ivan is a wonderful guide! A hundred out of a hundred stars!
Stephanie –
Our family had an absolutely fantastic day with Joan. He was so knowledgeable about the land and the history of the area surrounding Barcelona. The cava tour and wines were exceptional as was the beautiful and delicious lunch overlooking the farm. Joan was a joy to spend the day with. Many thanks for this incredible experience.
Lee –
Had a great day visiting bodegas in the Penedes with Ivan. We visited big and small producers, to which he brought a lot of “insider” knowledge. Will definitely use Wino Tours next time to visit Piorat!
Jeffrey Myers –
Joan was our guide and picked us up promptly at 9:30 from our apartment in Barcelona. Joan’s wine knowledge is vast and he is a great communicator and advocate for this beautiful region. We made 3 stops at all local and outstanding producers of wine, and especially Cava. Each winery was representative of the terroir and people that make this such a special place. Joan is a proud Catalan and it was a joy spending the day with him. He has continued after the tour proving my wife and I will great information and recommendations. I would highly recommend using Joan for your next wine adventure!! Thanks again Joan!”
