Where to start the Priorat winery quest?

The Priorat wine region is located 140 kilometers south of Barcelona, and 50 km west of Tarragona. Its rugged terrain makes it very difficult to reach by public transport. The only train station is in Falset, the capital of Priorat, and from there, bus service is limited. Therefore, you can visit Priorat on a leisurely ride departing from Barcelona in 2 hours or from Tarragona in 1 hour. At this point, we have to decide if we visit Priorat on a day tour or a multi-day tour.

  • Family winery in Porrera: We will start the day with a tour at a family winery in Porrera. What is fascinating about our chosen winery is its wine selection, as it is one of the few in Priorat to offer old vintages from 10+ years ago at its tastings. These are bottles valued at the most affordable price, ranging from 30 to 100€ per bottle, a real perk in Priorat.
  • Lunch stop at Gratallops: The tour will take you to Gratallops, the most important wine-producing town in Priorat. At our second stop, we will enjoy a three-course lunch and a tasting of 4 different wines. The winery is well known and was founded by one of the five fantastic people who gave the Priorat region its name.
  • Tasting wine up in the vineyards. The last stop will be in the same town as Gratallops. A great location for a D.O.Q. Priorat wine tasting: in the middle of the vineyards, with fascinating views.

  3. Scaladei: The origin of Priorat. Thanks to the clay-rich terroir, their wines tend to be softer. They are especially renowned for their Garnacha wines and offer a tasting of their most select labels.

    • Perinet barrel tasting: A unique 3-hour experience featuring tasting directly from the French oak barrels and a food and wine pairing. (Only two wineries a day with this tasting.)
